JREP – May 2006 Jewish Bookshelf Goes Primetime

One of the stars of that 2006 piece, Dr. Ruth Calderone, went on to make history last week in the Knesset, where she now serves as an MK for the Yesh Atid party.

I want you to read the PDF I linked to, so I won’t waste any more of your time on commentary here. Except to say that when I did the story, I was fairly certain that what I was seeing was only the beginning of an essential, growing trend, and I have never been so glad to be proven right with the years. Way to go, Dr. C.

The prospect of all sectors of Israeli society re-embracing our cultural heritage texts (I say nothing here about practice, because that’s a whole other tractate, as it were) is just as exciting as all of us sharing military and financial burdens equally.
